Proper Forms of Identification
In accordance with General Order 15-0020, the following unexpired forms of identification are acceptable to gain access to court facilities in the Northern District of Illinois:
- United States Passport and United States Passport Card
- Permanent resident card
- Department of Homeland Security enhanced driver's license
- Driver's License or other state photo identity card issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent), issued by any of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, and the United States Territories of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands
- Department of Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12)
- Personal Identity Verification (PIV) cards
- Foreign government-issued passport, recognized by the Department of State
Items Not Allowed in Courthouses
Contraband consists of those items which an individual may legally possess but are prohibited from being brought into a courthouse. These include, but are not limited to, the following items:
- Knives, razor blades, scissors, powders, liquids, aerosol spray cans, markers, pepper spray, mace
- Glass items
- Tools, nails, or screws, etc.
- Cameras, radios, tape recorders
- Rolled coins, handcuff keys, pad locks, heavy chain items, heavy metallic belts, knitting needles, corkscrews
And any other items that Court Services Department (C.S.D.) members determine will compromise the security or integrity of the courthouse and/or courtroom proceedings.
